The Office - TV Series on DVD

By: Trevor Kinnick

The Office Tv Series on dvd is recorded as a spoof of serious documentaries. The main plot of the show is that a film crew has taken it upon themselves to document Dunder Mifflin and its employees. The cameras are spoken to directly by the actors, especially Michael Scott, who seems to enjoy the cameras presence. Jan Levinson and others are frequently perturbed by the crews presence.

The live capture of the series is supported with confessional interviews, which feature the actors speaking directly with the camera crew about the day's events. Often two actors share an interview and speak with each other and the film crew at the same time. Usually this occurs with Jim and Pam, or on occasion, Oscar and Kevin or Kelly and Ryan, and once, Michael and Toby. Dwight frequently interrupts Michael's interviews, as he is often standing off-screen next to Michael as the interview begins. A few actors use the camera to their advantage. One example is when, in "Christmas Party", Phyllis's boyfriend Bob Vance introduces himself over and over as "Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration" to try to get publicity for his business. In some cases, the film crew seemingly has affected plot lines. During "The Dundies", aPam is drunk and nearly tells something to Jim, but hurries away when she notices the camera is still present. In "E-mail Surveillance", Pam tells the crew to help look for clues to Dwight and Angela's hush hush love affair, and they later show footage of it. In "Fun Run", the film crew catches Jim and Pam kissing, which forced to them confess to the film crew that they are dating.
